Almost every town in far north Queensland has its own show. The major show for the region is the Cairns Supa Show held in July at the Cairns Showground. Not vastly different from any agricultural show in the world, you'll find sideshow alley style amusements, rides, animal displays, arts and crafts made by local people, local produce, cat and dog competitions, equestrian events, community events and fireworks every evening. There are also shows in Mossman (last week in July), Tully, Innisfail, Malanda and Atherton. These shows provide a great opportunity to sample what each particular region is famous for, eg Malanda is a big dairy farming area and Mossman is a sugar cane town. For those willing to make the trek north to the Cape York town of Bamaga, the Bamaga Annual Show held in August will provide a true taste of outback life with rodeo events, horse races, carnival stalls and some larger-than-life Queensland characters.
