There is a wide selection of tour companies who offer reasonably-priced trips to the Daintree National Park, Mission Beach, Hinchinbrook Island, Cape Tribulation and further north to the Bloomfield River and up to Cooktown. Private charters, which are more expensive, are also available. Private charters (just your party and a guide) are a brilliant means of learning heaps and having fun in a limited time.
Tours to the Daintree are usually day trips which include lunch, morning tea, afternoon tea, an interpretive walk, the Daintree ferry crossing, a swim, some sightseeing and usually a Daintree River 'crocodile spotting' cruise. Several companies run wildlife 'night spotting' tours and specific 'croc spotting' tours. Four wheel drive tours to Bloomfield and Cooktown are overnight or longer and accommodation varies from resorts to B&Bs, camping grounds or hostels. Most tours are with small groups only and with an experienced, informative guide. Services (eg shops, medical facilities), are generally quite limited in Cape Tribulation, so if you need anything in particular, take it with you. From Cape Tribulation, there are horse riding treks as well as reef cruises for diving/ snorkelling or sea kayaking.
The Kuku-Yalanji Aboriginal tribe at Mossman Gorge, have two-hour walks departing every day. The Dreamtime Walks include cave paintings, special sites and explanations of traditional Aboriginal rainforest plant use. A quality guided, interpretive bushwalk for six people only is available through one of the more established tour companies in Port Douglas.
