The Far North Queensland outback is a land of contrasts, incredible beauty and in some parts, still a rugged frontier that few tourists ever see. Road travel to Cape York, beyond Cooktown, is usually impossible during the wet season (November - March) and even during the dry season (May - October), access is by 4WD vehicle or aircraft. Accommodation in Cape York is limited but the wilderness areas, the aboriginal culture and the fantastic fishing, make a trek north, well worth the effort. The Gulf Savannah (west of Cairns), is much more accessible and diverse with untouched bush, rivers, gorges, hot springs and a stunning variety of birdlife and other animals. Go west, go north, go north by north west - which ever direction you take, a trip off the beaten track in our region is an unforgettable experience.
