Have we got a thrill for you . . . . . . .

White Water Rafting

The Tully River, not far from Cairns, is internationally renowned as one of the best rafting rivers in the world. There are several reputable rafting operators who run adventures down the Tully and other accessible white water rivers in the region. Highly recommended ‘hang on to the seat of your pants’ fun.

Skydiving

The sport of skydiving has become well established locally in the last decade, and is now a firmly entrenched favourite with backpackers and extreme adrenaline junkies. The most common is in tandem with an instructor, and prices vary according to how much freefall you get. The local scenery can really be seen at its best this way, if you’ve got your eyes open, and landing on an island beach is one option.

Action Water Sports

Jet Skis, Waterskiing, Parasailing, Bumpa Rides and Jetboats. Our region has plenty of what it takes to get you wet and wild.

Bungy Jumping

After A.J.Hackett had established in New Zealand that his bungy system was commercially safe and predictable, his next move was the construction of a giant, purpose built bungy tower in the rainforest near Cairns’ northern beaches. This has proved to be a major magnet for thrillseekers from all over the world ever since.

Abseil / Rockclimbing

Queensland’s three highest mountains are all within our local region, and the range they are part of is regularly rugged, rocky and (often) remote. Local operators take both locals and visitors on either custom tailored or regular routes amongst some truly awesome scenery.

Go-Karting

Have the time of your life competing against each other Gokarting! An International Standard race track was completed in March of ‘98, and is now also home for the region’s dedicated Kart racers. The Race track facilities also include a licensed restaurant, fronting the main straight and start/ finish line. The Hire track caters to all ages from seven (7) years up, and if you’ve ever fancied that go-fast race experience this place is a must do! They don’t just cater for mum, dad & the kids either.

Helicopter Rides

Coral cays, the Outer Barrier Reef, tropical islands, magnificent beaches, over 1,000,000 hectares of World Heritage Rainforest, mountainous gorges and gorgeous mountains, the rural tablelands and the endless outback; all this and more is within easy reach of several helicopter operators, and both joyrides and travel to specific destinations happens every day.

Game Fishing

Marlin, swordfish, tuna, sharks; if that’s your thing, our region offers one of the best established and most popular game fishing fleets in the world. The big ones are out there.

Tiger Moth / Aerobatics

Flying his 1932 biplane with consummate skill, Captain J.Meadows will happily take a passenger along on joyflights all over our many magnificent tropical delights. Those with a penchant for adrenaline can also join him in some aerobatics, upon request.

Scuba Diving

Our local SCUBA diving is amongst the best regulated and the most popular anywhere. From beginners to experts, from one-dayers to extended charter (up to 12 days), whether shallow or deep, we have one of the most diverse arrays of marine life (big and small) anywhere on the planet. Sure to be a highlight of anyone’s holiday, if you don’t do anything else here in the Far North, try diving on the Great Barrier Reef.

Horse Riding

There are almost twenty operators offering horse rides in our region, and though more often popular with the very young, there are endless possibilities for equine adventure hereabouts, and many rides take in some wonderful scenery and choice swimming spots.

Jet Boating

Operating only from Cairns’ Trinity Inlet, local jetboats offer aquabatics, a visit to the mangroves, and some serious speed out to sea. A real adventure.

Target Shooting

Many visitors to our region spend part of at least one holiday day enjoying the challenges our local shooting galleries have to offer. These are indoor facilities, in both Cairns and Kuranda. There are also rifle ranges and shooting clubs.

Sea Kayaking

Whether you wish to tension some triceps for half a day, or enjoy the thrill of some self-propelled exploration out to and amongst some exquisite tropical islands, with a night or threes’ camping under the stars, local operators have the experience and expertise to guide you; in purpose built sea-kayaks. Expect to have plenty of fun.

Mountain Biking

Our region has already been the host for world mountain bike rallies, and many locals are fanatic riders themselves. Local operators will supply the gear and a guide, and have a plentiful supply of every sort of track available for adventure, adrenaline, sightseeing, serious skill, a leisurely pedal or whatever you fancy.

Hot Air Ballooning

One of our region’s well established tourist delights, and in more ways than one something of a quiet achiever. Regular flights depart from the Atherton Tablelands at dawn, and glide effortlessly over much panoramic scenery before landing for a special champagne breakfast.

Motorbike Tours / ATV

Four wheel motorbikes, simple to operate and a thrill to drive, are a good way to explore a little of our local region and enjoy some exhilarating fun. Guides teach you how to get going, then guide you amongst a huge variety of bush tracks. Some of the ATVs are 4WD, and all have a reverse gear. Be ready to get wet and muddy, though boots and overalls are available for hire too. Various half, full day & extended tours are available, beginning in Cairns.
